Josh Cohen Falls in First Round of NCAA Singles Championship

COLLEGE STATION, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Tex. Miami’s Josh Cohen fell to Air Force’s Shannon Buck in three sets in the First Round of the NCAA Men’s Singles Championship at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A & M Wednesday afternoon.

Buck struck quickly, taking the first set 6-0 and then jumping to a one-love lead in the second set. Cohen, however, tied the score at one-all and never trailed again en route to 6-2 win to force a third and deciding set. In the third set, Cohen once again found down 3-1. He would go on to win three more games but could not catch up to Buck who won his 18th consecutive match with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 victory.

 

Cohen, ranked 42nd in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, closes his sophomore season with a 23-12 overall record. Buck, ranked 67th, improves to 26-2 overall and advances to the Round of 32 where he will face Old Dominion’s Izak Vandu Merwe.
