Bradley Advances to Second-Round of NCAA Singles Championship

ATHENS, Ga. – Top seeded Megan Bradley defeated Nebraska’s Gitte Ostermann in straight sets to open the NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship Monday afternoon at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Complex in Athens.
Bradley, who was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year Sunday evening, gave up only one game en route to a 6-1 first set win. Ostermann, however, jumped to a 3-1 lead in the second set before Bradley regrouped to win five consecutive games to claim the 6-1, 6-3 first round victory.
With the win, Bradley improves to 44-1 this season and extends her win-streak to 39 matches.
Bradley now advances to the Round of 32 where she will face VCU’s Marianna Yuferova who downed Northwestern’s Cristelle Grier in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5, Monday morning. Yuferova is ranked 67th in the country and has posted a 25-9 overall record for the Rams this season.
Bradley will be joined by Banada in doubles competition, which begins with the Round of 32 Tuesday. Miami’s third seeded tandem will face Kentucky’s 22nd ranked Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk at 1:30 p.m.
