May 6, 2005

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior Megan Bradley, a member of the ninth ranked women’s tennis team, was named the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)/University of Miami Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Bradley will be honored at tonight’s Miami/Jacksonville baseball game at Mark Light Field where she is scheduled to receive her award and throw out the ceremonial first pitch at 6:50 p.m.

Bradley, the top ranked player in the country, is a three-time All-American and the reigning Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Champion. She has amassed a 42-1 overall record this season–a UM single season record–and is a perfect, 23-0 in dual-match play.

The sports administration major was recently named the Most Outstanding Student in the School of Education’s Sports Administration Program and will be a UM graduation commencement speaker on May 13th.

Megan Bradley earned the ACC/UM Female Scholar-Athlete Award because she is the most-outstanding performer in her academic program and in college tennis,” said Associate Director of Academics Services David Wyman. “Her performance in the class room and her illustrious career as a competitor make her a role model for not only our student-athletes but for all UM students. We are extremely proud and honored to bestow this award to Megan.”

Bradley was named the ACC’s Player of the Year after leading the Hurricanes to a 9-1 mark and the conference championship finals in only their first year in the league. She posted an unbeaten mark of 10-0 in ACC play.

Most recently, the Columbia, Mo. native received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship (May 23-28) in singles as well as in doubles with teammate Audrey Banada.
