CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After losing two-of-three matches to drop the doubles point, the University of Miami men’s tennis team bounced back to take the top four singles matches in a 4-3 win over 46th-ranked NC State Friday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes (11-8, 2-6 ACC) fell early, surrendering the doubles point to NC State (15-8, 2-6 ACC). The Wolfpack’s Nick Cavaday and Will Shaw stunned UM’s 58th-ranked tandem of junior Tim Krebs and freshman Vivek Subramanian on the No. 1 court, downing the pair 8-2.

NC State captured the doubles point on court No. 3 with an 8-3 win by Mason Schermerhorn and William Noblitt over UM’s duo of senior Luis Manrique and freshman Ryan Waits.

The Wolfpack quickly went up 2-0 in singles play when Noblitt upended UM freshman Ryan Waits, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 6.

Junior John Hoyes earned the Hurricanes first point of the night with a straight-set, 6-1, 6-2, win over Shaw on court No. 4, but NC State’s Andre Iriatre finished next, downing Subramanian, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 to put the Wolfpack within one point of the victory.

UM’s Krebs – who is ranked 95th nationally in singles – kept the Hurricane comeback alive at No. 2, defeating Conor Taylor, 6-1, 6-2 before Cohen and Hechtman clinched the UM win, winning match point at exactly the same time over Cavaday (6-2, 6-4) and Val Banada (6-3, 6-4) at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.

The Hurricanes will return to action Sunday when they take on fifth-ranked Duke in the home finale at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Sunday’s match is slated for noon. Admission is free.
