Hurricanes Fall, 4-0, at No. 3 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s tennis team fell to No. 3 Virginia, 4-0, in Atlantic Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville. With the loss, the Hurricanes fall to 9-8 overall and 0-6 in the ACC, while the Cavaliers improve to 17-2, 5-0 ACC.
The Cavaliers clinched the doubles point after winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
The match was called after Virginia’s Rylan Rizza, ranked 56th, downed No. 67 Tim Krebs 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 2 singles to clinch the win for the Cavaliers. Krebs claimed the first set 6-4 before Rizza rebounded to win the second set 6-2 and take the third set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-2) in the afternoon’s closest match.
Miami sophomore Josh Cohen and junior Eric Hechtman lost at the No.1 and No. 3 spots, respectively, while the other matches were called before they were finished.
The Hurricanes look to win their first ACC match when they travel to College Park for an 11:00 a.m. match against ACC foe Maryland Sunday.
