CORAL GABLES, FLa. – The University of Miami’s ninth ranked women’s tennis squad claimed five singles matches to take 5-2 win over No. 33 Florida State Friday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

With the win the Hurricanes extend their home-match win streak to 20 matches and improve to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the ACC while the Seminoles fall to 5-4, 0-1 ACC.

The Seminoles struck early, taking all three doubles matches for a 1-0 match lead.

Junior Melissa Applebaum shifted the momentum in Miami’s favor, however, with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lindsey Deason from the No. 3 singles position to tie the match at one-all.

Sophomore Audrey Banada followed suit with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set victory over Amber Tantee at the No. 6 slot to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 match lead.

The Seminoles got on the board once again with their only singles win of the evening at the No. 2 position. Roxanne Clarke came back from a 3-6 first set loss to Miami senior Staci Stevens to take a three set 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win to tie the score 2-2.

Over at court six, sophomore (70) Emily Mowery downed Tapiwa Marobela in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to once again give the Hurricanes the lead.

No. 1 ranked Megan Bradley clinched the win for the Hurricanes after upending 18th ranked Mihaela Moldovan 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 in a fierce battle at the No. 1 position. With the win, Bradley preserved her season unbeaten mark of 11-0.

Freshman Patricia Starzyk also remained unbeaten after rallying back from a 2-6 first set loss to upended Miranda Foley 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 from No. 4 singles to close the match.

The Hurricanes return to action Saturday, March 12th for a 2:00 p.m. match against Boston University at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
