Hurricanes Top Boston College, 7-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 10th ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team opened their month-long homestand with a 7-0 sweep over Boston College Monday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The win extends the Hurricanes’ home undefeated streak to 20 matches and improves their record to 8-2, 1-0 ACC.
The Hurricanes clinched the doubles point, for the sixth straight match, with wins in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Miami’s fourth ranked duo of Megan Bradley and Audrey Banada topped BC’sNida Waseem and Gia Nafarrete 8-1 before Melissa Applebaum and Caren Seenauth defeated Szilvia Szegedi and Lindsey Nash 8-1. UM’s Staci Stevens/Patricia Starzyk pair outlasted Morgan Landes and Caitlin Arnould 8-5 to claim the doubles sweep.
98th ranked Miami sophomore Emily Mowery put the Hurricanes’ up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Amy Molden in No. 6 singles.
Bradley, ranked No. 2 in singles, extended her unbeaten streak to 24 matches with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Szegedi at the No. 1 position.
Starzyk finished right behind Bradley, clinching the match with a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory over Nash at No. 4 to improve her record to 10-0 since joining the Hurricanes in January.
Banada topped Gia Nafarrete in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 from No. 5 singles before Stevens defeated Landes 6-2, 6-4 from the No. 3 position.
Applebaum rebounded from 3-6 first set loss to Waseem at the No. 2 position to win 6-2 in the second to force a third set tie breaker. The Miami, Fla. native walked away with the win, 3-6, 6-2 (10-5) to close the match.
The Hurricanes return to action in their inaugural ACC home opener against instate rival Florida State Friday, March 11th at 6:00 p.m. in the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
