Cesar Carrillo Named ACC Pitcher of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Last week was one of ACC firsts for the Miami baseball program. It began with junior pitcher Cesar Carrillo leading the team to its first ACC win and ended with Carrillo earning the Hurricanes’ first individual ACC honor.

Carrillo was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced today, for his performance in Miami’s 6-1 win against North Carolina State on March 4 in Coral Gables. He struck out a career-high 10 batters in 7.1 innings of work to lead Miami to its’ first-ever ACC win in the Hurricanes’ conference debut. He gave up only three hits and one run, and held the Wolfpack to a .120 batting average, .213 percentage points below their season average coming into the game. His 10 strikeouts were the most against N.C. State this season.

The right-hander moved his career record to 15-0 with the win and the Hurricanes are now 24-0 all-time when he takes the mound. He leads the Hurricanes this season with a 3-0 record, 1.61 ERA and 36 strikeouts against three walks in 28.0 innings. He also has one save.

Miami begins a busy week of baseball with games against Pittsburgh and Quinnipiac on Tuesday and Wednesday at Mark Light Field. Both games are schedule to start at 7 p.m. The Hurricanes resume their ACC schedule Friday, March 11, playing host to Duke at 7 p.m. at Mark Light Field. Carrillo is scheduled to start.
