Hurricanes Sweep UCF for Fifth Straight Win

The 53rd ranked <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami men’s tennis squad won their fifth straight match with a 7-0 sweep over in-state rival Central Florida Friday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center to improve to 6-1 on the season.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
The Hurricanes, who won all but one doubles match, claimed the doubles point with wins by Miami’s No. 2 and No. 3 teams. Junior Tim Krebs and freshman Vivek Subramanian paired up to upend UCF’s Sebastian Delgado and Ener Gursoy tandem 9-8 (8-6) at No. 2 as senior Luis Manrique and freshman Ryan Waits topped Sinan Sudas and Simon Jaeger 9-7 from the No. 3 slot.
Krebs and Subramanian returned to claim straight set victories in both their singles matches from the No. 1 and No. 5 positions, respectively. Krebs outlasted Gursoy for a 6-4, 7-6 win as Subramanian downed Sudas 6-3, 7-6.
54th-ranked Josh Cohen defeated Antonio Sierra 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 singles as doubles partner junior Eric Hechtman topped Delgado 6-3, 6-4 from the No. 3 slot.
Junior John Hoyes upended Joel Allen 6-4, 6-4 from the No. 4 spot while Waits took a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rhett Rosen in No. 6 singles.
The Hurricanes return to action Sunday, Feb. 27th when they host in-state rival Florida A&M at 12:00 p.m. in the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
