10th Ranked Hurricanes Claim 7-0 Win over Central Florida

The 10th ranked <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami women’s tennis team closed out their three-match home stand with a 7-0 win over in-state rival Central Florida Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
The Hurricanes claimed their third-straight 7-0 sweep to improve to 5-2 on the season and extend their home win streak to 18 matches.
The Hurricanes once against swept all three doubles matches highlighted by Miami’s eighth ranked tandem of Megan Bradley and Audrey Banada who defeated Pamela Fernandez and Becky Gordon 8-0 from the No. 1 slot. In the No. 2 position, Melissa Applebaum and Caren Seenauth teamed up to down UCF’s Kristina Lohmos and Kyla McNichol 9-7 while UM’s Staci Stevens/Patricia Starzyk duo upended Jennifer Carati and Megan Hunter 8-2 to complete the sweep.
In singles, (2) Bradley defeated UCF’s Pamela Fernandez in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 from the No. 1 position as Applebaum upended Ola Luczak 6-0, 6-3 from the No. 3 slot.
Starzyk only lost one game as she downed Carati 6-0, 6-1 from the No. 4 position to continue undefeated as a Hurricane.
Seenauth and sophomore Emily Mowery also won from the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Seenauth claimed a 6-0, 7-5 win over Anna Yakimchenkova as Mowery defeated Kyla McNichol 6-4, 6-0.
Stevens closed the match with a 7-6(4), 6-2 win over Lohmos from the No. 2 slot.
The Hurricanes return to action when they travel to the University of Alabama Saturday, February 25th for a 4:00 p.m. match time.
