CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami swept doubles and won all but one singles match to win a 6-1 decision over in-state rival Stetson Saturday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The 51st-ranked Hurricanes (5-1) have now won four-straight and have only surrendered one singles match in the last three matches as they handed the Hatters (6-1) their first loss of the season.

UM won on all three doubles’ courts, highlighted by the nation’s 43rd-ranked tandem of sophomore Josh Cohen and junior Eric Hechtman’s 8-3 win at No. 1 over SU’s Marcus Echtler and Birger Soiland.

Cohen, ranked 26th nationally in singles, and Hechtman continued to play well in singles, with a pair of 6-1, 6-0 straight-set wins over Stetson’s Joey Jones and Soiland at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.

Junior Tim Krebs, who holds the nation’s 123rd spot in singles, clinched the match at No. 1, downing Echtler, 7-5, 6-2 to improve to 6-0 on the year.

Miami freshman Vivek Subramanian won at No. 4 over Christian Moe, 4-6, 6-4, (10-6) and fellow classmate Ryan Waits bounced back from a first set loss to overtake Thomas Bross, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the UM win.
