Marathon, Florida

Do you have any nicknames?
Mel

When/Why did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis because my mom put me in an after school clinic and I just loved playing.

If you could have any job, anywhere, what would it be?
I’d love to work for a company in the advertising department as an Ad CEO/Manager Accountant somewhere in Miami if possible.

Name anyone, living or dead, you’d like to meet:
I would like to meet Julia Roberts, both of my grandfathers and my sister.

The best tennis player in the world is…?
Steffi Graff is definitely one of the all-time bests. She made it look so easy and had a great time doing it.

What do you like to do with your free time?
I like to hangout with my boyfriend, my friends and family, go out to the Grove, go to the beach and travel the world whenever possible.

Why did you choose the University of Miami?
I chose Miami because my family is here and I love this city. The communications program is also tops in the nation.

Talk about your favorite professor or class at Miami?
My favorite class would have to be a tie between my introduction to advertising course with professor Lancaster and THA101 with Patricia Dolan. Both classes taught me things that will last a lifetime.

Who is your favorite athlete?
My favorite athlete would have to be Lance Armstrong. He is an inspiration to me as a person because he fought for his life with cancer. He not only survived but came out stronger.

What is your best sports memory?
My best sports memory was winning nationals in doubles with my good friend in our last junior tournament of my career. It left me with something that I’ll always cherish.

Do you have any superstitions before matches?
I like to have fresh grips on each racquet and I also like to listen to upbeat music before a match; it gets me pumped up.

What are your goals for this season both individually and as a team?
Individually, I am looking to improve upon my record from last year and do the best that I can. As a team, we are young and driven and I feel that it’s possible to make it to the NCAA Elite Eight or better.

What do you love about being a Hurricane?
I love the atmosphere on campus, as well as the people that I have met while being a Hurricane. It has given me the chance to earn a degree in communications and be near my family the whole time.
