CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The 10th ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team resumes competition when they host in-state rival Florida Atlantic Tuesday, February 15th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes (2-2) return to action after competing at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships that were held Feb. 3-6th. Miami finished the week 1-2 after upsetting then fourth ranked UCLA, 4-3, before falling to (8) Duke, 4-3 and (11) Washington, 4-3. With the win over UCLA, the Hurricanes reached the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time since 1988.

Miami’s No. 10 ranking marks the first time that the team has been ranked in the Top 10 since the 1988 season, when the Hurricanes were ranked 10th in the final ITA poll.

Florida Atlantic University opens their 2005 dual season on the road when they face the Hurricanes. Both teams were slated to square off Jan. 28th but the match was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Hurricanes are undefeated all-time against the Owls and hold a 20-0 record. Last season Miami defeated FAU, 7-0, after winning all six singles matches and taking the doubles point. The Owls finished 2004 ranked 70th in the final ITA poll. Both teams met in the fall season at the UM Fall Classic where the Hurricanes won all their matches in straight sets.
