Nov. 29, 2004
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami along with first-year head coach Mario Rincon has announced the hiring of Jason Cook as an Assistant Coach with the men’s tennis team.
Cook comes to Miami after a decorated career as a player in both the collegiate and professional rankings.
“I am pleased to join coach Rincon at one of the top programs in the country,” Cook stated. “I look forward to helping this team reach and exceed their potential.”
On the collegiate level, Cook played three seasons at UCLA from 1996-99 where he garnered All-America and All-Pac-10 honors and concluded the season ranked No. 6 nationally in doubles in 1999. Cook also spent one season at the University of New Mexico prior to transferring to UCLA.
As a professional, Cook has worked and competed with some of the tennis world’s most recognized and accomplished players. Throughout his pro career, Cook served as a practice partner for the likes of such tennis greats as John McEnroe, Pete Sampras and Jim Courier and was ranked as high as No. 340 in doubles and No. 560 in singles in the ATP professional rankings.
“Jason is one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the country,” Rincon said of Cook. “He has a great background and an even better reputation. He has been around great tennis for a long time, and we are excited about the possibilities of what he can help us accomplish here at Miami.”
