Hechtman Advances to Second Round at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships Qualifying Tournament

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior Eric Hechtman upended TCU’s Jordan Freitas in straight sets, 7-6 (6), 7-5, to advance to the round of 64 at the 2004 Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championship qualifying tournament Monday morning at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

With the win, Hechtman, ranked 78th in the country in singles play, moves on to play Brett Ross of Wake Forest Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.

Sophomore Josh Cohen was knocked out of the tournament after falling to Texas A&M’s Jerry Makowski in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.

In doubles play, the Hecthman-Cohen tandem was eliminated after suffering an 8-5 loss in the first round to Scott Doerner and Pedro Rico of Pepperdine.
