Hurricanes Have Strong Showing at Final Day of Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami’s 59th-ranked duo of sophomore Josh Cohen and junior Eric Hechtman downed 13th-ranked Luiz Carvalho and Jose-Carlos Pinto of Mississippi State, 9-8 (2) Sunday morning to highlight the third and final day of competition at the 2004 Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.

Along with Cohen and Hechtman’s win, Hurricane teammates junior Tim Krebs and freshman Vivek Subramanian defeated the Bulldogs’ Florent Girod and Joshua Irey, 8-4 in double play.

In singles action, Cohen, ranked 76th in the country, continued to play well, defeating Pinto in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 while Krebs and Subramanian also won in straight sets, overtaking MSU’s Irey and Jordan Jones, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-2 respectively.

The Hurricanes conclude the Gator Invitational with an overall record of 7-10 in singles play and 5-3 in doubles play in three days of action.
