CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami along with head coach Bryan Getz announced the 2004-05 Hurricane men’s tennis schedule Wednesday.
In their inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Hurricanes’ 2004-05 slate will include seven fall tournaments with 21 dual matches in the spring, highlighted by 12 home dual matches in addition to the UM Fall Classic to open the season in September.
Miami takes to the road for six fall tournaments and nine matches in the spring, traveling to nine different states during the 2004-05 campaign.
The Hurricanes dual schedule consists of 10 NCAA Championship qualifiers from the 2003-04 season and 11 teams that concluded the year in the top 50 of the ITA’s final collegiate rankings – three of which were ranked in the top 10.
“We are very excited to get the 2004-05 season started and look forward to the opportunity to play what will be a very difficult national schedule,” Getz stated.
“In addition, becoming a member of the ACC will further improve the strength of our schedule, enabling us to compete with other top-ranked programs.”
Miami opens the fall season as the host of the UM Fall Classic, Sept. 10-12 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center and heads to Gainesville, Fla. for the UF Invitational, Sept. 17-19.
UM then travels to Chattanooga, Tenn. for the ITA All-American Championships with the pre-qualifying rounds scheduled to begin Oct. 1 running through the championships on Oct. 10.
Members of the Hurricane squad will also compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational, Oct. 8-10 in Atlanta, Ga.
The dual season kicks off Jan. 26 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in a home contest with Florida Atlantic.
UM will be tested early in dual play in 2005, going on the road Feb. 4 to take on in-state rival Florida, who finished the 2003-04 season ranked eighth and advanced to the round of 16 at the 2004 NCAA Championships.
The Hurricanes then face a contingent of six teams including South Florida (Feb. 6), Georgia Southern (Feb. 13), Jacksonville (Feb. 18), Wichita State (Feb. 19), Central Florida (Feb. 25) and Florida A&M (Feb. 27) to close out the month.

A new chapter in the Miami record books will be written March 6 when the Hurricanes take on fellow ACC newcomer, Virginia Tech in Coral Gables to mark UM’s first ACC conference match.
Then, in what could be the Hurricanes’ toughest stretch of the season, Miami matches up with four NCAA Championships Tournament teams from a year ago in Wake Forest (March 9), Clemson (March 12), Georgia Tech (March 13) and Pepperdine (March 16).
The month of March concludes with a match at Loyola Marymount (March 17) and at home with Wisconsin (March 23) and North Carolina (March 27).
April opens on the second day of the month with a match on the road against defending ACC Champions Virginia, then on to a match at Maryland (April 3) before returning to Coral Gables for matches with NC State (April 8) and Duke (April 10).
Miami takes on in-state and conference rival Florida State in Tallahassee, April 15 in the regular-season finale before the ACC Championship Tournament, April 21-24 in Cary, N.C.
