Third Seeded Hurricanes Take on No. 6 Seed Boston College at the 2004 BIG EAST Tennis Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 49th-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team will take on Boston College at noon Thursday, March 29 in the opening round of the BIG EAST Tennis Championships held at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes drew the third seed in the tournament after posting an overall record of 12-7 in dual play this season.
Head Coach Bryan Getz and Miami took the BIG EAST title in 2003 and look to win their eighth conference championship behind the play of freshman Josh Cohen (Weston, Fla.) and sophomore Eric Hechtman (Miami, Fla.)
Cohen has an overall record of 12-3 this season at No. 1 singles, beginning his UM career with 11 consecutive wins in dual play.
Hechtman – ranked as high as 93rd in the nation at one time – recorded a mark of 14-5 this season playing primarily at No. 2 singles.
Boston College enters Thursday’s match with an overall record of 9-13 and are seeded sixth in the tournament.
The winner of the Miami-BC match will move on to the BIG EAST semi-finals to take on No. 2 seed Notre Dame Friday at noon.
Thursday’s opening round matches of both the Men’s and Women’s BIG EAST Championships are slated to begin at 9 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Admission is free.
