No. 22 Women's Tennis Blanks Florida Atlantic, 7-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 22nd-ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team swept in-state foe No. 68 Florida Atlantic, 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes (2-0) took an early lead over FAU (0-2), winning all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point, with UM’s tandems of Megan Bradley (Columbia, Missouri) and Melissa Applebaum (Coral Gables, Fla.), Sihem Bennacer (Algiers, Algeria) and Sara Robbins (Tucson, Ariz.), and Mari Toro (Miami, Fla.) and Audrey Banada (North Miami Beach, Fla.) each winning at the No. 1, 2 and 3 doubles spots.

Miami continued to roll in singles play with No. 11 Bradley downing FAU’s Alena Dvorakova, 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles slot. No. 97 Applebaum followed suit in the No. 2 position, edging out the Owls Karolina Roubickova, 7-5, 7-6 (7) and Natalie Mikolich (Boca Raton, Fla.) upending FAU’s Stephanie Beaulieu in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

No. 22 Miami will return to action on Sunday afternoon, hosting No. 30 Alabama at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
