CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Miami sophomore No. 21 Todd Widom fell in three sets to Baylor’s No. 2 Benedikt Dorsch in the NCAA Singles Semifinals Sunday afternoon in Athens, Ga.

Widom (Coral Springs, Fla.) was the first player since Conny Falk (1990) to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Tournament.

He wraps up his sophomore campaign with a 27-9 overall singles record. He earned All-American status for the second year in a row after beating No. 22 Rajeev Ram of Illinois to advance to the Sweet 16.

“It was a great run, he was literally inches away from playing for the national title,” said Bryan Getz. “I am so proud of Todd, he kept raising his level of play throughout the tournament and proved that he is one of the top five players in the country.”

Widom beat Dorsch (Weiden, Germany) 6-4 in the first set before falling 6-4 in the second set.

Widom was down 3-0 in the third set but fought back and tied it three-all. The players continued to battle ending in a 6-6 tie.

Widom and Dorsch went into a tiebreaker where Widom eventually fell 11-9 losing the match 7-6 in the third set.

Dorsch advances to the finals to face No. 3 Amer Delic of Illinois Monday afternoon.
