No. 24 Women's Tennis Falls To No. 12 Kentucky, 4-3

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The No. 24 University of Miami women’s tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 12 Kentucky in the second round of the NCAA Regionals in Lexington, Ky. Saturday afternoon.
The Hurricanes end their season 17-7, while the Wildcats improve to 23-7 on the season as they advance to the Round of 16 played in Gainesville, Fla.
Miami won doubles on courts No. 2 and No. 3 to take the doubles point and the 1-0 lead in the match.
Seniors Igna deVilliers and Abby Smith beat Leigh Bradwell and Jill Buckley 8-3 on court two, just before Mari Toro and Staci Stevens clinched the point with an 8-3 victory over Shannon Stafford and Nathalie Roels on court three.
Kentucky tied the match one-all with a win at No. 5 singles. Stevens put the Hurricanes back on top with a straight set victory 6-2, 6-3 over Shannon Stafford at No. 4 singles.
UK tied the match for the second time of the day with a win at No. 3 singles. Megan Bradley gave Miami its final lead of the day as she beat Sarah Witten 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 1 singles.
Miami fell in three sets on courts No. 2 and No. 6 ending the hard fought battle.
Freshman Melissa Applebaum and sophomore Bradley will play in the NCAA Doubles Tournament May 19-25 in Gainesville, Fla.
