March 22, 2003
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The No. 22-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team will No. 33 Tennessee Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
UM has won its last five matches and owns an 11-6 record over the Volunteers all-time.
“Hopefully we can ride the wave of momentum, but we’ve got to have every guy at their maximum potential, especially against a team like Tennessee,” coach Bryan Getz said.
The Volunteers’ roster features two ranked players in Simon Rea (No. 31) and Mark Dietrich (No. 75).
The UM doubles pairing of Colin Purcell and Andrew Golub is ranked No. 34 in the nation. No. 18-ranked player Todd Widom has been out due to illness.
The Hurricanes’ top performer recently has been Eric Hechtman (Miami, Fla.). Due to holes in the Hurricanes’ lineup, Hechtman has played four different positions, but owns seven consecutive wins. Hechtman’s 13-3 record is the best on UM’s squad.
Luis Manrique (Key Biscayne, Fla.) has won his last three matches after breaking the 11-match losing streak he started the season with. Manrique’s last two wins have clinched team victories for the Hurricanes.
