Hurricanes To Face Wolfpack

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – The No. 42-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team will host North Carolina State Friday at 6 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Wolfpack enters the contest 0-2 with losses to Princeton and Indiana, while the Hurricanes are 1-0 on the season.
UM’s roster features the nation’s No. 9 ranked player Todd Widom (Coral Springs, Fla./J.P. Taravella HS). Widom is 1-0 on the season and 11-3 including fall play.The Hurricanes’ season got off to a solid start last Friday when they routed Florida Atlantic 7-0 at home. Widom sparked the singles with a quick 6-3, 6-3 win over David Demers.Playing at No. 1 doubles UM’s Luis Manrique (Key Biscayne, Fla.) and Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.) defeated Ernest Diaz and Jeremy Perez 8-2. Widom and Eric Hechtman (Miami, Fla.) clinched the point with an 8-3 win over F.J. Schofield and Demers.
In singles play, Andrew Golub (Miami, Fla.) defeated Kevin Obletz 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Tim Krebs beat Cristian Paiz 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
Purcell earned a win over Schofield 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Eric Hechtman upended Oscar Plotnik 6-1, 6-4. Shauny Hoyes (Miami, Fla.) rounded out the scoring for the Hurricanes with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Perez.
