Q&A with Team Captain Vince Vazquez

May 24, 2002

Team Captain Vince Vazquez took a few moments to discuss his thoughts on his last game in Miami. Here is what he had to say…

What are your goals for your last three-game series at Miami?
I just want to pitch.

Miami holds a 10-0 record over New York Tech. Do you feel that puts any pressure on you or other team members?
Yeah, you don’t want to be the first team to lose to them and not be in the regionals.

What are your post-graduation plans?
Hopefully, I’ll go play baseball somewhere. If not, I’ll come back for another year and go to grad school.

Did you accomplish everything you wanted to in these 4 years at UM or is there something you wish you’d have done differently?
There are a couple of things I wish I could’ve done differently, but I’m pretty happy with the decisions I’ve made.

What has been your best baseball memory?
Winning the two national championships.

What has been your biggest baseball disappointment?
My biggest disappointment was getting injured my sophomore year.

What is your favorite major league baseball team?
I like the Chicago Cubs, because that’s my hometown.

Which athlete did you look up to when you were a kid?
I looked up to Michael Jordan because of his work ethic.

What is your favorite baseball movie?
Bull Durham

What advice would you give young athletes?
Don’t push yourselves too hard and have fun with the game.

What is the one thing a lot of people don’t know about you?
I’m in love with Shawn Valdes-Fauli. No, I’m just kidding.

Do you have a going away message for your fellow team members?
Listen to Robert McDaniel. He’s the best guy ever.
