No. 39 Men's Tennis Edges No. 59 Georgia State, 4-3

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Senior Tarik El Bassiouni won in straight sets to clinch the 4-3 win for the No. 38-ranked Miami men’s tennis team over No. 59 Georgia State Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

El Bassiouni beat Nicolas Lupica, 6-4, 7-6, at No. 6 singles giving the Hurricanes (6-5) the advantage over the Panthers (10-5).

Miami won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Joel Berman and Jose Lieberman teamed up to beat Albano Franco and Lupica, 8-4, at the No. 3 spot, while Tomas Smid and Andrew McDade knocked off Pablo Perez Gras and Luka Bernard, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.

No. 12 Todd Widom put Miami up 2-0 in the match, beating Perez Gras, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.

The Hurricanes then fell 3-2 as GSU rallied winning No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles.

Lieberman tied the match three-all with a, 6-4, 6-4, win over Miha Lisac at No. 5 singles.

El Bassiouni clinched the match for the Hurricanes at the No. 6 spot.

The Hurricanes are back in action Monday at 6 p.m. hosting No. 29 Middle Tennessee State.
