Soccer Picked To Finish Fourth In The BIG EAST Northeast Division

CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami women’s soccer team was selected to finish fourth in the BIG EAST Northeast Division, as voted on by the conference coaches.
Miami, which finished with a 9-10-1 overall record last year and 2-3-0 in the BIG EAST, was picked behind Connecticut, Boston College and Syracuse. UM was selected ahead of St. John’s, Virginia Tech and Providence.
Notre Dame was selected to win the BIG EAST’s Mid-Atlantic Division, ahead of West Virginia.
Sophomore Vonda Matthews was named to the All-BIG EAST preseason team. She finished her freshman season with 10 points, including four goals and two assists. She started all 20 games last season.
Miami begins the 2001 season on the road at the Florida State Tournament facing Loyola on August 31.
The Hurricanes open their home schedule on September 4 with a 7 p.m. game against Florida Atlantic at the Cobb Stadium for Soccer, Track and Field on the UM campus.
