CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The No. 11-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 6 Duke in the NCAA Sweet 16 in Athens, Ga. Saturday night.
The Hurricanes end the 2001 season with an overall record of 21-4, the best finish for a Miami team since the 1990 season.
“This was a big step for our team, and we wanted to do well,” said head coach Jay Berger. ” I think we showed we’re tough enough and could have beaten a team like Duke.”
Senior Johan Lindqvist defeated No. 27 Marko Cerenko, 7-6 (2), 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
