Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated With 5-2 Win Over Florida State

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (7-0), ranked 22nd nationally, remained undefeated with a 5-2 victory over 55th-ranked Florida State (4-5) at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
After losing the doubles point to the Seminoles, the Hurricanes rebounded by taking five of singles matches for the win. In singles action, four of the five UM singles victories were won in three-setters.
Leading the way for the Hurricanes was Michael Lang, who defeated FSU’s Xavier Luscan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. Lang is currently undefeated on the spring season with a 6-0 record. Additionally, the Lang victory tied the match score at 1-1.
The Miami victory moves the Hurricanes’ all-time record against the Seminoles to 42-5, as well as end an FSU two-match win streaking entering the contest.
FSU then went ahead, 2-1, with Jeff Scarella’s straight set win over Andrew Golub, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.
Miami then won Nos. 2-5 singles all in straight sets to surge past the Seminoles for the win. Among the three-set victories attained by the Hurricanes were Tomas Smid defeated Gustav Bucht in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Also winning for the Hurricanes were Johan Lindqvist, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, over Romain Jurd at No. 3, Peter Hoffman, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, over Alex Herrera at No. 4, Jose Lieberman, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 over Jerrod Owen at No. 5.
The lone doubles victory for the Hurricanes was Hoffman and Schmid over Bucht and Herrera at No. 1.
The Hurricanes will next face Texas A&M on Sunday, February 25 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
