Davis Named Coach Of The Year Finalist

Coral Gables, FL – University of Miami head football coach Butch Davis has been named one of six finalists for the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award given annually by the Houston Division of the American Heart Association to the nation’s top collegiate football coach.
The other finalists are Bobby Bowden (Florida State), Dennis Erickson (Oregon State), Dennis Franchione (Texas Christian), Lou Holtz (South Carolina) and Bob Stoops (Oklahoma).
The winner will be announced on January 17 at the annual Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year dinner in Houston, TX. The award is voted on by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
Davis, in his sixth season, guided the Hurricanes to a 10-1 record including victories over No. 1 Florida State and No. 2 Virginia Tech. Miami went undefeated in BIG EAST play to win its fifth conference championship and earn a berth in Nokia Sugar Bowl on January 2.
