Tennis Hosts Hurricane Fall Classic

Coral Gables, Fla – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will host the Hurricane Fall Classic, an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) sanctioned event, October 27 – 29 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the UM campus.

Competition will begin at 9 a.m. each day. Admission is free.

The tournament, which will consist of three singles flights, two doubles flights as well as consolation draws, boasts seven of last season’s top ranked programs including No. 3 Florida, No. 17 Tennessee, No. 22 Florida State, No. 39 Miami and No. 41 Florida International. Also attending will be Division II powers Lynn, ranked No. 2 in the nation, and Barry, ranked ninth in the nation.

Miami will be led by freshman Bettina Hafner (Ulm, Germany) who is seeded second in Flight A Singles.

In Flight B singles the Hurricanes boast three of the top four seeds with junior Marcy Hora (Delray Beach, FL) is seeded No. 1, senior Katia Bogomolova (Moscow, Russia) is seeded No. 2 and sophomore Lauren Scaglione (Seminole, FL) is seeded fourth.

Miami also has two players seeded in Flight C. Sophomore Igna deVilliers (Capetown, South Africa) is seeded first with freshman Abbey Smith (Chicago, IL) seeded third.
