UM Women's Soccer Wins Bama Classic

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–Freshman Mary Luke (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) scored the game-winning header in a 1-0 battle between the University of Miami women’s soccer team and the Alabama Crimson Tide to win the Bama Classic Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore defender, Lisa Gomez (Boca Raton, Fla.) was named the tournament MVP.

Luke scored the goal at 36:51 on a pass from Laura West (Allen, Texas). The Hurricanes had the 1-0 lead at halftime and played great defense the second-half to earn the shutout over the Crimson Tide.

UM improves to 2-2 in the all-time series versus Southeastern Conference opponents, and 1-1 in the series with Alabama.

The Hurricanes took 10 shots, while the Crimson Tide took nine. UM took eight shots on goal compared to Alabama’s two.

The Hurricanes will ride a three-game winning streak into BIG EAST action as they play host to Providence Sunday at 1 p.m. in their return to Cobb Stadium.
