UM Soccer Picks Up Another Win On The Road

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The University of Miami (2-1) women’s soccer team defeated Mississippi State (1-1) 5-1 in the first match of the Bama Classic Friday afternoon at the University of Alabama Soccer Complex.
Sophomore Laura West (Allen, Texas) scored first in the match for UM on a pass from Jennifer Sanchez (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) at 4:01. Miss. State was quick to answer back with a goal from Jessica Kauffman at 9:21, however, that was the last goal the Bulldogs would score in the match.
The Hurricanes dominated the rest of the match scoring four more goals. UM held Miss. State to only four shots in the match, compared to 18 for the Hurricanes.
Alexis MacKenzie (Plantation, Fla.)scored at 12:17 on an assist from Ashley West (Allen, Texas), while Mehryn Corrigan (Clearwater, Fla.) scored at 34:50 on assists from Caryn Blood (Red Bank, N.J.) and Dee Bass (Coral Springs, Fla.).
Newcomers Carrie Ratliff (Atlanta, Ga.) and Vonda Matthews (Broken Arrow, Okla.) scored the first goals of their careers as Hurricanes at 42:50 and 81:08. Blood also assisted in Ratliffs goal.
