CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – For the 17th year, Publix Supermarkets and the University of Miami have joined together for the Canes Fever Program. Canes Fever is an eight-week merchandising program that generates funds for the University of Miami Scholarship Fund that benefits all 18 of UM’s varsity sports.

From August 31 to October 25, purchase any item at Publix Supermarkets that is marked with the `Canes Fever sticker and receive a 2-for-1 game ticket to your choice of Miami’s football clashes with Louisiana Tech, Pittsburgh or Boston College.

“We are so proud and pleased that Publix continues to stand as a wonderful supporter of the University of Miami,” said UM Athletic Director Paul Dee. “The Canes Fever Program is another example of how Publix has a positive impact in our community. We are extremely grateful to everyone at Publix for their generosity.”

As of August 30, more than 160 vendors have joined the program. Publix will advertise and display specially marked Canes Fever items from these vendors. A portion of the proceeds from the participating vendors of the Canes Fever program will be contributed to the University of Miami Scholarship Fund.

The Canes Fever Program begins Thursday, August 31, and runs through October 25. The University of Miami football team begins its 2000 season with a game vs. McNeese State on August 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Orange Bowl.
