Michael Lang, Meredith Laughlin Chosen MVPs Of Tennis Squads

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior Michael Lang (Sarasota, FL) and seniorMeredith Laughlin (Miami Killian) were named the men’s and women’s tennisMost Valuable Players Wednesday evening at the University of Miami TennisAwards Banquet at Monty’s Restaurant in Coconut Grove.

Laughlin, one of only two seniors on the Hurricanes’ roster,compiled an 18-11 singles record in 1999-2000 including a 16-7 record indual match competition. Laughlin, who ranks fourth on Miami’s career winslist with 84 singles victories, won all three of her singles matches at lastweekend’s BIG EAST Tennis Championships to lead the Hurricanes’ to their sixconference title in nine years. Miami currently ranks 35th in the nation.

Lang led the Hurricane men with a team-best 19-2 dual match recordin helping the Hurricanes to a 19-4 record and the BIG EAST Championship.Miami, which is currently ranked 20th in the nation, reached as high as No.17 this season marking the first time since the end of the 1994 season thatthe Hurricanes cracked the Top-20.

Also honored were senior Arpad Odry and junior Alanna Broderick asthe 1999-2000 Centre Court Club Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athletes, andfreshman Lauren Scaglione who received the Doris Hart Endowment ScholarshipAward and sophomore Johan Lindqvist who was named the recipient of the NeilSchiff Endowment Scholarship Award.
