Oct. 26, 1999
Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami women’s soccer team (10-7) will host Florida International (6-7-1) on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium on the UM campus.
The Hurricanes are led in scoring by freshman forward Allison McWhinney (Danvers, MA) who has 22 points off of a team high eight goals and six assists. Her six assists place her second behind freshman defender Lisa Gomez (7 assists) (Boca Raton/Spanish River).
Team captains Nina Wathne and Deidre Bass place second and third, respectively, in scoring. Wathne (Haudesand, Norway), a senior midfielder, most recently scored both of UM’s goals in the ‘Canes 2-0 shut out win at Pittsburgh on Oct. 22. Her four game winning goals on the season are a team-high. Bass (Coral Springs/Stoneman-Douglas), a sophomore defender, has five goals and four assists.
FIU enters the game on a one-match win streak, having defeated South Alabama, 2-1, in Mobile on Oct. 23.
The all-time series between the two schools, dating back to last season, is tied at one game apiece. UM defeated FIU, 3-1, in its initial meeting at University Park on Sept. 16, 1998. FIU avenged the loss in the two schools regular season finale at Gulliver Prep with a 1-0 defeat.
Cobb Stadium is located on San Amaro Drive, between Mark Light Baseball Stadium and the Hecht Athletic Center. Admission is free.
