Miami defeated 3-0 by No. 18 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team (6-3, 1-1BIG EAST) concluded its two-match BIG EAST road trip with a 3-0 loss to18th-ranked and Northeast Division foe Boston College (6-2, 1-0) at theNewton Campus Soccer Field.

Earlier, the Hurricanes earned a 2-0 shutout of Providence College in itsconference opener on Friday. The match against No. 18 Boston College markedthe Hurricanes first against a ranked opponent.

UM goalkeeper Elizabeth Swinson and the Hurricane defense fought off anopponent-high 33 shots on goal, allowing three goals. Swinson, making herthird start in goal for Miami since transferring from LSU during theoffseason, recorded a career-best 13 saves. The hometown Eagles deliveredplenty of offense, outshooting Miami 33-13, while also holding an 8-2advantage on corner kicks.

BC’s Morgan Page added two goals, while Meghan Moore added two assists, inthwarting UM’s first upset attempt on a nationally ranked team.

Page started Eagle scoring with a goal in the 15th minute off an assist fromMoore. St. Thomas Aquinas graduate Mary Guarino recorded BC’s second goalin the 42nd minute, with Moore on the assist. Page added the team’s thirdscore in the 76th minute with a double-assist credited to Colleen Danaherand Sarah Powell.

Danvers, MA resident Allison McWhinney, also UM’s star freshman forward,recorded a team-high three shots on goal along with Ft. Lauderdale’s JennySanchez.

Miami started its inaugural BIG EAST road trip with a 2-0 shutout ofProvidence at Glay Field in both schools conference opener. UM ‘s McWhinneyand Nina Wathne scored for the Hurricanes in the win over the Friars onSept. 24.

The Hurricanes return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. againstNCAA Division II champion Lynn University at Cobb Stadium on the UM campus.
