Hurricanes Focus On East Carolina

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The ninth ranked University of Miami footballteam conducted a two-hour workout in full pads on Wednesday afternoon at theGreentree Practice Facility. With the practice, the Hurricanes continuedpreparation for their matchup with East Carolina on Saturday atCarter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina. The game is being playedin Raleigh, rather than Greenville, NC due to the aftermath of HurricaneFloyd.
Following the practice, Head Coach Butch Davis applauded the team’sprogress after two days of focusing on the Pirates.
“It was a very good practice today,” said Davis. “I liked the preparation,the players seemed to be really into it. Guys are flying around now andreally look eager to play. Today was the second day of the East Carolinagameplan and tomorrow we’ll take it a step further.”
Davis also commented on the talents of East Carolina starting quarterbackDavid Garrard, a 6-3, 235-pound sophomore.
“He’s a very good athlete,” said Davis. “He has a year of experience havingplayed a great deal for them last year. He’s very talented, very athleticand is a big kid who can run very well and is hard to bring down.”
Sophomore running back Najeh Davenport and senior linebacker Michael Smithare both out for the year with right knee injuries. There were no newinjuries to report.
The Hurricanes will return to practice with a workout on Thursday afternoonat the Greentree Practice Facility. Practices are closed to the public.
MIAMI-EAST CAROLINA ON POWER 96: Saturday’s Miami-East Carolina gamewill be broadcast on WPOW, 96.5 FM (POWER 96) at 6 p.m., rather than WQAM,560 AM. The Hurricane Game Day pre-game show will be broadcast on WQAM, 560AM beginning at 4 p.m. The UM-ECU game is being moved to POWER 96 due to aconflict with Saturday’s Colorado Rockies-Florida Marlins game.
