Hurricanes Fall To Buffalo 3-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team (4-2)suffered its first home loss of the 1999 season with a 3-0 defeat to theUniversity of Buffalo (6-0) at Cobb Stadium.
Although the Hurricanes held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal inthe first half, the Bulls were able to get by the UM defense for two goals.
Buffalo’s Samantha Swerdloff tallied the first score in the 22ndminute, when she took Heather Collins soft pass and scored past UM’sgoalkeeper Rachel Elsby to the top of the box.
Six minutes later, Buffalo scored in the 27th minute when Collinsscored to the top right corner past Elsby off an indirect kick. PaulaListrani earned the assist when she took her direct kick opportunity to passto Collins who got behind UM’s defensive wall.
UM switched goalkeepers in the second half, as Elizabeth Swinsonmade her Hurricane debut following an injury that sidelined her throughMiami’s first five contests. Swinson recorded all of UM’s five saves infending off the Bulls offense.
Buffalo was able to stretch its lead in the 75th minute on anunassisted score by Swerdloff.
Bulls’ goalkeeper Jaime Adams totaled eight saves in the game, whileUM held the overall advantage in shots on goal, 19-9, and corner kicks, 5-4.
Miami returns to action on Sunday, September 19 at 1 p.m. againstCentral Florida at Cobb Stadium.
