Women's Soccer Earns Top Ten Rankings

CORAL GABLES, FL — After a split of games in the Black BearInvitational at the University of Maine in Orono this past weekend, theUniversity of Miami women’s soccer team (3-1) debuted at No. 9 in theSoutheast region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America(NSCAA). In addition, Soccer Buzz magazine kept the Hurricanes at No. 8 inthe Southeast region.
Miami began the week with a 2-0 win over Long Island on Aug. 31 in theHurricanes’ home opener at Cobb Stadium. UM then began the Black BearInvitational with a, 2-0, shut out of host-school Maine. New Hampshireupended Miami on the second day by a 2-1 margin.Freshman Allison McWhinney leads the team in goals (4), points scored (8)and shots on goal (15). In addition, she scored the eventual game-winninggoal against LIU in the 38th minute.
Miami returns to action against Florida Atlantic on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7p.m. at Cobb Stadium.
