Second-Year Hurricanes Receive First Ranking

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team (2-0)received its first national ranking, No. 8 in the Southeast Region by SoccerBuzz. The ranking came after the Hurricanes shut out Florida State, 3-0, atthe Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee on Aug. 29 to start the 1999season.

Miami, playing in just its second season of varsity competition,also defeated Long Island, 2-0, in its home opener a the new Cobb Stadiumfor Soccer, Track and Field on Aug. 31.

Soccer Buzz, prior to the ’99 regular season, ranked the Hurricanerecruit signee class No. 10 nationally. In addition, the publication rankedMiami fifth nationally for first-year programs in its inaugural 1998 seasonafter finishing with an 11-7-1 record.

UM returns to action this weekend in Orono, Me, at the MaineInvitational. The Hurricanes will face Maine on Saturday at 2 p.m. and NewHampshire on Sunday at Noon.
