Jarrod “Salty” Saltalamacchia, a 12-year Major League Baseball veteran and 2013 World Series champion, enters his first season as the Hurricanes’ Director of Program Development, where he will work extensively with Miami’s catching group.

A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., Saltalamacchia was selected in the first round (36th overall) of the 2003 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves out of Royal Palm Beach High School. He was named the Braves’ Minor League Player of the Year in 2005, earned Minor League All-Star honors, and won three gold medals with Team USA (2001, 2002, 2005) before making his MLB debut in 2007.

The switch-hitting catcher went on to play parts of 12 big league seasons with the Braves, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays. He totaled 110 career home runs, including a career-high 25 with Boston in 2012, and delivered several memorable postseason performances to help the Red Sox capture the 2013 World Series title. That same year, he was honored as the Palm Beach County Professional Player of the Year.

Since retiring in 2019, Saltalamacchia has emerged as a respected coach and developer of talent. He spent three seasons as an assistant with the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod Baseball League before taking over as head coach of the Falmouth Commodores in 2024, leading the program to a record number of league All-Stars and MLB Draft picks, including three first-rounders. He also served as head varsity coach at The King’s Academy in Florida, where he joined the staff in 2018.

Saltalamacchia was inducted into the Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame in 2020 and continues to reside in West Palm Beach with his wife, Ashley, and their daughters—Sidney, Hunter, Sloane, and Charlie.
