May 17, 2002
Senior Joel Berman, a member of the men’s tennis team, was selected the March 2002 Academic All-Star after leading the Hurricanes both on and off the court.
Berman, who has attained academic excellence in his Business Management Operations major, has been an outstanding member of the tennis team for four years, though an injury prevented him from playing his junior season. He wrapped up his sophomore season with a 14-7 singles record at the No. 4-5-6 spot and a 24-12 doubles record. He finished his freshman year with a 13-10 singles record playing at the No. 5-6 spot.
In high school, a younger Berman was named the two-time Pinellas County Player of the Year after holding the No. 1 ranking in the conference with a 15-0 record. He also ranked No. 4 in Florida and top thirty in the country.
