THE MATCHUP:
Miami will face host Evansville in its opening roundgame of the America’s Youth Classic being held atRoberts Stadium in Evansville, Indiana. The game marksthe first meeting between the two schools in basketball.Evansville enters the game with a record 0-1 following a 67-64 seasonopening road loss to Lipscomb.

Evansville returns 10 lettermen including all five starters from last season’ssquad that looks to improve on its 10-19 record a year ago. The PurpleAces were led in its season opener by sophomore guard Jason Holsinger whoposted a team-high 15 points, connecting on 4-of-6 three point attempts, andsenior forward Matt Webster who also scored in double-figures with 13.

Webster (14.2 ppg) and Holsinger (12.6 ppg) were Evansville’s top scorerslast season. Webster was also the team’s top rebounder in 2005-06 pullingdown 6.4 boards per game while Holsinger handed out a team-high 4.1 assistsper game.

Miami enters the America’s Youth Classic with a 2-0 record followinghome wins against Florida International (73-50) and Alcorn State (96-57).Sophomore transfer Jack McClinton leads the team in scoring averaging17.5 points per game. McClinton, who scored a season-high 21 points in theHurricanes’ win over Alcorn State, has hit 10-of-20 (.500) shots from the fieldincluding 6-of-12 (.500) from three point range.

Senior center Anthony King has recorded two straight double-doubles toopen the season and is averaging 14.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks pergame while shooting 13-of-17 (.765) from the field. He is just second player,joining Eric Brown in 1985, to open a season with two straight double-doublessince the rebirth of the Miami basketball program in 1985.

The Hurricanes have a total of five players averaging in double-figures inscoring including Denis Clemente (13.0), Brian Asbury (11.0) and JimmyGraham (10.5).

A WIN OVER EVANSVILLE WOULD:

Improve Miami’s record to 3-0 this season.
Mark Miami’s first 3-0 start since 2002-03.
Mark Miami’s second consecutive road win against an MVCopponent. UM defeated Creighton, 53-52, in the second round oflast season’s NIT in Omaha, Neb.

ON THE COACHES:
Miami head coach Frank Haith is in his third season with theHurricanes. His record career record is 36-29 (.554) including a 2-0 mark this season. Last season Haith led Miami to an 18-16record and a second consecutive NIT appearance.

Evansville head coach Steve Merfeld is in his fifth seasonwith the Purple Aces and 10th season overall as a collegiate headcoach. His record at Evansville is 40-75 (.348) while his careerrecord stands at 130-132 (.496).
