Hurricanes Set for NCAA East Preliminaries

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Miami track and field team travels to the University of Kentucky as they compete at the NCAA East Preliminaries beginning Wednesday at the UK Track & Field Complex.

A total of 20 women and 10 men make up the contingent of Hurricanes that will compete in individual events along with the men’s 4×100 and women’s 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

The top 12 finishers from each event will earn a spot in the NCAA Championships field held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, June 10-13.

Action begins Wednesday at 1 p.m. as Tyson Schiele competes in the javelin before George Franks and Sean Watkins race in the 400m at 7:25 p.m.

On Thursday, Utitofon Sam and Jocelyn Pringle open competition at 10 a.m. in the weight throw followed by Alva Back and Deisiane Teixeira at 1 p.m. in the javelin. Lauren Kirby competes in the shot put at 6:30 p.m. before Serena Tate takes part in the 400m at 7:25 p.m.

Gabriella Grissom hits the track at 7:50 p.m. in the 800m as Sanaa Hebron, Morgan Roundtree and Antonia Sanchez Nunez close out the day in the 400m hurdles.

Desmond Coleman begins Friday’s competition with the discus at 1 p.m. followed by Kennedy Sauder competing in the high jump at 2 p.m. The men’s 4×100 relay of Ashton Torns, Tristen Washington, Carter Cukerstein and Dylan Woodruffe hit the track at 5 p.m. while the men’s 400m final is scheduled for 6:50 p.m.

On Saturday, Sam and Calea Jackson compete in the discus at 1 p.m. as Magdaline Campo takes on the high jump at 2 p.m. The women’s 4×100 relay of Janay Moorer, Nandy Kihuyu, Aniyah Brown and Iyonna Codd race at 5 p.m. before Maddie Scheier races in the 3000m steeplechase.

At 6 p.m., Dominique Johnson and Adriana Kruzmane compete in the triple jump before the 400m, 800m and 400m hurdles finals beginning at 6:50 p.m. The competition concludes with the women’s 4×400 relay of Codd, Hebron, Grissom and Kihuyu at 8:45 p.m.
