Franks Breaks School’s 200m Record on Day One of ACC Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Miami track and field team opened the ACC Championships in strong fashion Thursday, recording a school record, five top-eight finishes and five finals qualifiers at Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park.

In the men’s 200m, Franks broke the school record to qualify for the final with a time of 20.55. Franks bested Davian Clarke’s mark of 20.66 that was set in 1997.

Sean Watkins Jr. qualified for the men’s 200m with a time of 20.76, placing eighth in the prelims.

Sanaa Hebron won the 400m hurdle prelim at 56.27 as Morgan Roundtree and Antonia Sanchez Nunez advanced to final after finishing seventh and eighth with times of 58.32 and 58.42, respectively.

Alva Back and Deisiane Teixeira earned the first points for Miami as Back took fourth in the women’s javelin with a throw of 48.38m, and Teixeira finished seventh with a distance of 47.62m.

Jocelyn Pringle earned a fourth-place finish in the women’s hammer throw as she recorded the second-longest throw in program history at 65.03m. Utitofon Sam placed seventh in the event with a distance of 60.85m.

In the men’s javelin, Tyson Schiele placed eighth with a mark of 56.48m.

After the first day of the decathlon, Edgar Campre sits in third with 4,010 points and Dominique Hall is in seventh with 3,757 points.

The Canes return to the track for day two of the ACC Outdoor Championships on Friday at 11 a.m. with the decathlon.
