The Hurricanes opened the 2026 T. Rowe Price ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament with a hard-fought 78-73 victory over the sixth-seeded Louisville Cardinals Thursday evening.

Malik Reneau led all scorers with 24 points while also hauling in six rebounds and three steals. Washington finished with 17 as Tre Donaldson had 14 points and six assists. Ernest Udeh Jr. cleaned up the glass with a game-high nine rebounds to go along with seven points and three blocks.

Miami returns to the semifinals for the first time since 2023 and sixth time in program history (1-4 all-time).

Miami will face second-seeded and 10th-ranked Virginia at 7 p.m. on March 12 in the tournament semifinals. The game will air on ESPN/2.

The Hurricanes last met the Virginia Cavaliers on Feb. 21, but narrowly fell 83-86 in Charlottesville.

The Hurricanes and the Cavaliers have only met three times before in ACC Tournament history, with Virginia coming away with two victories (Virginia, 2005 and 2016; Miami, 2011).

ACC TOURNAMENT NOTES

  • The Hurricanes roll into the tournament with a 25-7, 13-5 ACC record.
  • Miami holds 20-19 record in the ACC Tournament and is the No. 3 seed for the third time in program history and are 2-2 as the conference’s third-best team.
  • Three Canes earned All-ACC honors: Malik Reneau (First Team), Tre Donaldson (Second Team) and Ernest Udeh Jr. (Defensive Team)
  • Head coach Jai Lucas’ first season marks the second-fastest first-time head coach in ACC history to reach 20 wins (Bill Guthridge)
  • The Hurricanes are shooting 50.4% from the floor, which tops the ACC and is 10th nationally.
  • Reneau has scored 20-or-more points in 17 games this season, and is avergaing a team-high 19.2 ppg.
