George Selected 24th Overall in NBA Draft

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Kyshawn George of the University of Miami men’s basketball team was selected 24th overall by the Washington Wizards via a proposed trade with the New York Knicks in the 2024 NBA Draft Wednesday evening at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

George is the 26th player in Miami program history to hear his name called in the NBA Draft and the first first-round draft pick since Lonnie Walker IV was selected 18th overall in 2018.

Miami has had a player drafted to the NBA in back-to-back seasons as Jordan Miller (No. 48) and Isaiah Wong (No. 55) were both selected in the second round of the 2023 draft.

At least one Hurricane has been chosen in five of the last eight NBA Drafts – George, Miller, Wong, Dewan Hernandez (No. 59 in 2019), Lonnie Walker IV (No. 18 in 2018) and Bruce Brown Jr. (No. 42 in 2018) and Davon Reed (No. 32 in 2017).

A native of Monthey, Switzerland, George started 16 of 31 games played in is first and only season at Miami, averaging 7.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, while shooting a team-leading 40.8 percent from 3-point range.

George scored in double-figures in 11 contests and became the first Miami freshman to score 20-plus points in a game since 2020 (Isaiah Wong vs. Virginia Tech). Off the court, George posted a 3.68 in the fall semester while pursuing a degree in sport administration.
