Cavinders Return to Miami Women's Basketball
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami women’s basketball announced the return of Haley and Hanna Cavinder ahead of the 2024-25 season. Both Haley and Hanna will use their final year of collegiate eligibility in the 2024-25 season.
The twins helped Miami to the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament Elite 8 appearance during the 2022-23 season, their lone year with The U. Prior to their first stint with Miami, the Cavinders were four-year letterwinners and all-league honorees at Fresno State.
Haley started all 35 games in 2022-23, averaging 12.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game as a 2023 All-ACC Second Team and 2023 All-ACC Academic Team honoree. That season she paced Miami in scoring, three-point field goal percentage, free throw percentage and minutes per game. She needs just one more game to reach 100-career double-digit scoring outings, totaling 2,065 points, 889 rebounds and 474 assists for her collegiate tenure. Three times she was named to the All-Mountain West Team and in 2021 she was named Mountain West Player of the Year.
Hanna was a key member of the Miami backcourt in 2022-23, appearing in 34 games while pacing the ‘Canes in assist/turnover ratio at 2.3. Four times she scored in double figures as she earned 2023 All-ACC Academic Team honors. Her collegiate career started with three-successful seasons with Haley at Fresno State. From 2019-22 she earned two All-Mountain West Team nods as well as a 2020 Mountain West All-Freshman Team selection. She returns to Coral Gables with 1,529 points, 336 rebounds and a career-scoring average of 12.4 points per game.
“Haley and Hanna are two veteran ACC guards who are extremely talented, possess a relentless work ethic, are fierce competitors and are incredible teammates and leaders,” head coach Tricia Cullop said. “I love how passionate and driven they are! They will inspire every player around them to raise the bar!”
Prior to college, both Hanna and Haley had highly-lauded high school careers for Gilbert High School, with each surpassing 2,000-career points. Haley was named Arizona 5A Player of the Year as a senior and Hanna was selected as the state’s offensive player of the year.
