Deysel and Teixeira Earn Weekly Conference Honors After Historic Outings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami javelin throwers Devoux Deysel and Deisiane Teixeira have been tabbed ACC Field Performers of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

A graduate transfer from Angelo State, Deysel made history in his first meet as a Hurricane — throwing 76.58m, or 251 feet and 3 inches, for a second-place finish and school record.

The Garsfontein, South Africa, native ranks first in the ACC and fifth in the NCAA this season.

Teixeira, a transfer from UNLV, earned a first-place finish at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational after throwing 53.98m, or 177 feet and 1 inch, to also claim the javelin school record.

Teixeira’s ranking matches Devoux’s – first in the ACC and fifth in the nation for the javelin.

This week, the Hurricanes track and field team travels north to Gainesville, Fla., to partake in the Florida Relays Friday and Saturday.
