Hurricanes Conclude Season Against Demon Deacons
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami soccer team wrapped up its 2023 campaign Thursday evening, falling to Wake Forest, 2-0, at Cobb Stadium.
The Hurricanes (3-10-4, 2-7-1 ACC) kept the Demon Deacons (10-2-5, 4-2-4 ACC) scoreless throughout the first frame, but Laurel Ansbrow and Emily Morris’ second-half tallies proved to be the difference.
“Growth takes time,” Miami head coach Sarah Barnes said. “The process can be painfully slow. They’ve been committed and worked hard to really help change the program. It’s people like them that you build on. We’re so appreciative for what they’ve given.”
Prior to the match, Miami honored defender Delaney Brown, midfielder Julia Edwards and forward Katerina Molina with an emotional Senior Day ceremony.
Brown, Edwards and Molina combined to play in 167 career matches, including earning 105 starts.
Throughout their time in the orange and green, the senior class has helped the Hurricanes secure their first victory over Florida in a decade, pick up the first win at Boston College in program history, upend eventual NCAA College Cup semifinalist Alabama and knock-off then-No. 24 Virginia Tech.
